Apple’s 15 worst days over the past 20 years
January 23, 2013, 6:20 PM
Disappointment over Apple’s iPhone sales and guidance for the next quarter sent shares of the company into a tailspin in late trading Wednesday.
Apple stock AAPL -9.83% fell more than $55, or nearly 11%, in late trading, after posting gains during the regular session.
Because of Apple’s outsized significance on the S&P 500 SPX +0.15% and the Nasdaq Composite indexes COMP +0.33% , Thursday’s likely to be a tough day for the broader markets.
While some kind of bounce back is possible, a slide of more than 10% would rank among the worst single-day performances for the stock over the past 20 years.
Apple has lost more than 10% in a single day’s trading a total of 15 times over the past two decades, according to data compiled from Factset.
Seven of those slides have come since the year 2000, and two of them since the introduction of the first iPhone in 2007.
Here’s a look at the 15 worst days for Apple stock over the past 20 years, sorted by largest percentage decline.
